Published 12 June 2023

Seven universities in New Zealand feature in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023, the only ranking that assesses universities’ contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The University of Auckland placed 12th overall, retaining its top 15 position from 2022, and reaffirming its strong commitment to sustainability and making a positive social impact through its partnerships, research, teaching, operations, community engagement and knowledge transfer.

Other New Zealand universities in the top 100 included Victoria University of Wellington, University of Otago, Auckland University of Technology, University of Canterbury, Massey University and University of Waikato. The Impact Rankings are the world’s only ranking that measures universities’ contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which includes targets such as quality education, gender equality and affordable and clean energy.
