Development Studies is a branch of social science that examines issues related to developing countries, especially concerning social and economic development. Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution aim to identify and analyse the violent and non-violent behaviour that causes social conflict to create a more stable world and society.
Development Studies involve the study of anthropology, globalisation, economics, environment, and international development, while Peace Studies look at international politics, arms control and proliferation, human rights, the politics of the global environment, democracy, religion, and politics.
Development studies graduates will find employment in non-governmental organisations, charitable institutions, local or international government, research, teaching and advisory organisations.
Entry requirements vary for each New Zealand university, but international students will need an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, no lower than 6.0 in each component, and an International Baccalaureate score of 34 points.
